The Opportunity
WisdomRecruitmentS.com is recruiting a highly experienced Plant Operations Director for a major healthcare facility in Middlebury, Vermont. This is a critical leadership role responsible for the overall management and safety compliance of the facility’s physical structures, utility systems, and grounds.
The successful candidate will join the University of Vermont Health Network Facilities Leadership Council, driving strategy, cost control, and maintenance across all locations.
Key Leadership Responsibilities
The Director is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, and supervising of the Engineering/Maintenance Department, encompassing building maintenance, Biomed, and Hazardous Waste management. Key functions include:
➤ Maintaining physical structures and systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers) in an operative and safe working condition.
➤ Ensuring 100% compliance with all regulatory standards, including Life Safety Codes (LSC), CMS, and OSHA.
➤ Providing coaching and performance management for the Plant Operations Manager and technicians.
➤ Implementing business strategies focused on cost controls, productivity enhancement, and operational efficiency.
➤ Coordinating with leaders across the organization on facility projects, safety concerns, and strategic challenges.
Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)
✅ Minimum of 5 years of Facilities Leadership experience is necessary.
✅ Demonstrated knowledge of basic HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, hazardous material, and safety management.
✅ Thorough understanding of healthcare facility regulations and compliance.
✅ Proven ability to prioritize, multi-task, and lead teams effectively.
✅ Demonstrated experience in business strategy implementation and operating in politically sensitive environments.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-To-Haves)
✅ Prior experience in a hospital or acute care setting (preferred, but not mandatory).
✅ CHFM certification (Certified Healthcare Facility Manager – American Hospital Association).
✅ College education in maintenance, or a Technical Education in a building trade with State licensure.
